Why you don’t want BHT and BHA in your pet’s food!

Every pet food company uses some degree of preservatives to maintain stable shelf life for their products. BHT (Butylated hydroxytoluene or E321) and BHA (Butylated hydroxyanisole or E320) are among the most common artificial preservatives used in pet foods. Studies show that potential side effects of these preservatives are not limited to physical but also behavioural including aggression and “severe deficit in learning”.

Thus, natural preservatives are the best way to go! At Petzlove, we use Vitamin C (ascorbate) and E (mixed tocopherols) which are natural preservatives that help keep fats and fat soluble ingredients from becoming oxidized.
